With almost everything closed, Mosques, businesses, markets, malls, everyone being asked to stay in their homes, daily activities distorted, we are left with so much time on our hands. Our minds tend to wander with all the free time and the negativity starts to creep in. Because of the confinement, your mind is filled with fear and constant worrying; “what if I contract the disease and die ”, what if my workplace downsizes and I lose my job”, “what if I am unable to take care of my family”, the list is endless. Your mind is now filled with so much worry and anxiety that you feel like you are drowning.
To some, a degree of worrying and anxiety is completely normal and part of life but to others, it may completely take over their mental health.
The Prophetصلى الله عليه وسلم constantly made dua seeking refuge from worry
“Oh Allah! I seek refuge in You from worry and sadness, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from being overcome by debt and from being overpowered by men.”Sahih Bukhari
Tips to overcome Anxiety during the current lock down
- Tawakkul – Reliance on Allah
When you find yourself eaten up by worry and anxiety, please know that this is completely beyond your control. Accept that whatever is happening to you was ordained to happen even before you were born. Trust that it is Allah’s plan and His plan is always the best. Allah promises in the Qu’ran that:
“And to Allah belong the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and to Him will be returned the matter, all of it, so worship Him and rely upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of that which you do.”Qura’n 11:121
